A Moment In Time

A Poem by Amber Lea Starfire, ©2005

Two wind chimes sing,
golden to my soul’s sweet longing,
like some ancient calling, when
writer’s urge strikes swift, and deep
compulsion hurries me
to capture what, in agony,
I cannot see but only feel.

Time-worn church bells toll,
their call resounding in the
caverns of my soul, remembering
some lifetime long ago,
while dangling silver brightly
adds its clanking timbre, light and
joyous, amidst those deeper solemn tones.

Then sirens scream,
setting all the dogs yipping, howling;
their involuntary song beckons,
like cave-dwelling, bison-painting instinct
to seize at once the wild
spirit song of wind and bells and
chimes,  Crows caw their own sung answer
to this moment, this one and only moment
in time.
